How many porta potties does a construction site need?
A construction site with 20 or fewer workers needs 1 toilet under OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c), Table D-1. A crew of 20 to 199 needs 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers, and a crew of 200 or more needs 1 seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers.
| Crew size | OSHA minimum | Standard units |
|---|---|---|
| 1–20 workers | 1 toilet | 1 |
| 21–40 workers | 1 seat + 1 urinal per 40 | 1 |
| 41–80 workers | 1 seat + 1 urinal per 40 | 2 |
| 81–120 workers | 1 seat + 1 urinal per 40 | 3 |
| 200 workers | 1 seat + 1 urinal per 50 | 4 |
Worked example: a framing crew of 46 needs 46 ÷ 40 = 1.15, rounded up to 2 standard units. Read the rule at osha.gov, and see our OSHA porta potty guide for handwashing and placement rules.
What does weekly jobsite service include?
Weekly jobsite service includes pumping the holding tank, scrubbing the seat, urinal, floor and walls, recharging the tank with deodorizer, and restocking toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Sink units and handwashing stations also get fresh water, soap and paper towels on every visit.
- Service is included in the 28-day price
- Busy sites can add a second weekly visit
- Gate codes and site contacts are saved for every visit
How does jobsite billing work?
Jobsite porta potties bill every 28 days, not by calendar month, so each cycle includes four weekly services. The first cycle includes the one-time delivery fee. Billing continues until you call or text for pickup, and it stops on the day you ask.
Full details are in the cost guide and the rental terms.
Where should a jobsite porta potty go?
A jobsite porta potty should sit on firm, level ground near the work, close enough to a driveable path that the service truck can reach it every week. Keep it away from trenches, material drops, crane swing areas and the edge of excavations.
- Strap or stake units on open lots during spring winds
- Keep a clear path at least 4 feet wide
- Tell us when the unit needs to move as the job changes
On Holloman AFB or White Sands Missile Range, see the Holloman AFB page for access steps.
Construction sites: questions renters ask
Can you deliver jobsite units on short notice?
Jobsite units can often be delivered the same day or next day in Alamogordo. Call early, and a rush fee is quoted up front for same-day orders.
Do you add handwashing stations to jobsites?
Handwashing stations and sink units can be added to any jobsite. OSHA requires washing facilities where crews handle paints, coatings or other harmful materials.
Can I move a unit to another part of the site?
Units can be moved on the next service visit, or sooner by request. Tell us the new spot and any access changes.
Can I put units at several job addresses?
Units can go to several addresses at once. Each address is its own order, and one call to dispatch handles changes across all of them.
What if my crew size changes?
Add or remove units at any time. New units are added to the next route, and removed units stop billing the day you request pickup.
