Renting a Porta Potty During a Septic Tank Repair or Replacement
Many homes outside central Alamogordo, in Boles Acres, La Luz, Tularosa and the mountains, run on septic. When the tank is replaced or the leach field is dug up, the toilets in the house cannot be used until the work is finished.

How long will I be without a toilet?
Septic pumping takes a few hours, but a tank replacement or new leach field can keep a household off its toilets for several days to a couple of weeks, depending on inspections and weather. A porta potty lets you keep living in the house.
Where should the porta potty go?
Place the porta potty well away from the dig area, the old and new tank locations and the leach field, on firm ground the truck can reach. The driveway or the far side of the house usually works. Ask your septic contractor where their equipment will travel.
What should a household rent?
A household doing septic work usually rents one standard porta potty, plus a handwashing station if the water will be off. Families with young children or older relatives often choose a wheelchair-accessible unit for the extra room and level floor.
How is a short septic rental billed?
A septic-repair porta potty is billed as one 28-day rental with weekly service, even when the work takes only a few days. If inspections or weather stretch the job, the rental simply continues, with weekly service, until you call for pickup.
